Thomas Smith is the first person teachers and administrators contact when they have a problem with a
computer, printer, smart board, or Chromebook.
As the school’s new IT Coordinator, he operates the front lines of technology, although his work often occurs
behind the scenes.
“When a teacher can’t access the internet, or an administrator needs to send a mass email, I’m the person
they call for help,” Smith says. “I also manage all of our devices, which means ensuring everyone has what
they’re supposed to have and that all items are accounted for.”
He also maintains the school’s connectivity with critical software systems like PowerSchool and ParentSquare.
A recent Florence Darlington Technical College graduate, Smith joined Virtus Academy in June and says being
the IT coordinator is more than just a job. “Helping teachers and students is a real bonus.”
