Our Schools
We are powering the future through excellence in education in our Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. Each school represents a distinct segment of our students’ educational journey as we prepare them for adulthood, jobs, higher education, careers, and whatever else the future holds.
Our schools comprise a unified commitment to ensuring the best possible outcome for every member of our unique learning community.
We are Virtus. We Power the Future.
Student Pledge
I will begin each day with a positive attitude.
I will have an open mind and heart and do my very best in and out of school.
I will do my best to ensure Virtus has a welcoming environment for all.
I will practice excellence in all I do.
I will treat everyone with respect.
Powering the Future in Grades 6–8
At Virtus Academy Middle School, every student develops their knowledge, leadership skills, and potential. Our motivated teachers and assistants guide and support each member of our learning community, and we partner with parents, families, and guardians to ensure every student has the tools they need to achieve their highest level of success.
Curriculum
Our core curriculum encompasses Amplify ELA, HMH Math, IQWST Science, and Leadership Development and Service Learning.
We enhance our primary courses with interactive learning experiences in technology, languages, physical education, and a variety of specialized electives.
We provide Afterschool Tutoring for students who require extra assistance with test preparation, Field Studies to expose them to different communities and cultures, and Personalized Learning Plans for setting and achieving academic goals.
Amplify ELA
Designed to respond directly to the challenges and opportunities facing middle school students, our Amplify ELA curriculum empowers young learners to become critical thinkers, focusing on developing ideas and opinions on relevant real-world texts rather than what’s right or wrong. Amplify ELA contains six levels of embedded assessments to provide helpful insights into each student’s daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
HMH Math
Developed by researchers who have influenced the fields of mathematics, mindset and motivation, professional development, and more, HMH uses innovative digital tools and skills-practice resources to provide a multimodal approach to ensure every learner can achieve math success.
IQWST Science
Our IQWST science curriculum engages students with shared phenomena, investigations, and opportunities to draw upon and connect their everyday life experiences with science content. Students experience phenomena firsthand through hands-on investigations manipulating science materials whenever possible to understand and explain the phenomena.
Lessons are organized into thematic units such as Can I Believe My Eyes? (Physical Science) and What’s Going on Inside Me? (Life Science), that support students as they build an understanding of core ideas in science as well as understanding and use of scientific practices.
Curricular Coherence
IQWST utilizes Circular Coherence – revising and building on ideas across time. This provides students with opportunities to develop, reinforce, and apply their understandings on an ongoing basis throughout their middle school years.
Beta Club
Our Junior Beta Club program is ideal for 6-8th grade students interested in enhancing their education with community service. Students must be invited to join and have an overall grade average of 90. Our Junior Club competes for awards at the annual South Carolina Beta Club Convention in February.
Sports
Students in grades 6–8 can enrich their classroom experience with team and individual sports including Boys & Girls Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, and Cross Country.
Supply Lists
Supply Lists will return prior to the next academic year.
