Enrollment Windows & Lottery Process

Virtus Academy has an open enrollment policy, meaning that students may submit an application at any time of the year; however, Virtus Academy uses a lottery system to enroll students during the Spring Semester for the following school year. Following our Spring lottery, applications are collected and seats are filled on a first come first serve basis until capacity is reached in a class, grade level, or building. A lottery is not required if capacities are not reached.

  • Spring Enrollment Cycle
Returning student registration will be distributed between January and February and must be returned by the specified deadline in the letter. Returning students will be placed and the number of spaces available will be determined and filled with new applicants. New applicant applications will be collected from the time of the close of the Intent to Return collection cycle. If more applications are collected than seats available, a lottery will be conducted to fill the available seats. New applicants will be notified if they obtained a spot shortly after the deadline.
  • Exception Enrollment Cycle
Virtus Academy of South Carolina will give enrollment preference to the groups as specified below. If a space is available, siblings, a child of an employee or committee member may be given the available seat at any time during the year.

Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the school currently enrolling?

A: Midyear enrollment for the 2026–27 school year takes place only during these enrollment windows:

  • K–8: September 23–October 5
  • K–12: December 14–January 11
  • K–8: March 10–25

A seat must be available before we can offer enrollment, and we work through the waitlist. All enrollment paperwork and records from the student’s previous school must be received before the student can begin. If records are delayed, the student may not be able to start during that enrollment window.

Q: What grade levels are currently open for enrollment?

A: Applications for students in grades K–12 for the current school year are accepted year-round. During the school year, available seats are offered in the order applications are received. If no seat is available, students are added to the waitlist in that same order.

Applications for the 2027–28 school year submitted between November 2, 2026, and February 7, 2027, will be included in the lottery for available seats.

Q: Does submitting an application form guarantee my child will be admitted?

A: No. During the school year, available seats are offered in the order applications are received. If no seat is available, students are added to the waitlist in that same order.

Applications for the 2027–28 school year submitted between November 2, 2026, and February 7, 2027, will be included in the lottery for available seats.

Q: If my child is already a student, do I need to apply each year?

A: No. Current students do not need to submit a new application each year. Families must complete the Intent to Return form by the stated deadline to reserve their child’s seat, and complete next year’s registration by its deadline.

Each January, current families will receive a link to the Intent to Return form with a deadline. Currently enrolled students who wish to return receive preference. If the form is not submitted by the deadline, the student’s seat may be offered to another family. If your child loses their seat because the form was not completed on time, you will need to submit a new application, and your child will be placed on the waitlist.

Q: Does the school admit students based on grades or other criteria?

A: No. Virtus Academy of South Carolina is open to any student who resides in South Carolina
