General Summary

Virtus Academy is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Latin Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging instruction in Latin language, literature, and culture while fostering a deep appreciation for classical studies. This role is essential in supporting our commitment to academic excellence and developing well-rounded scholars.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement a rigorous Latin curriculum that aligns with state and school standards.
  • Teach Latin language skills, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and translation.
  • Introduce students to Roman history, mythology, and classical culture.
  • Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and a love for classical studies.
  • Utilize innovative and engaging teaching methods to enhance student learning.
  • Assess student progress through assignments, exams, and projects, providing constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • A minimum academic credential consisting of a Bachelor’s degree in Latin, Classical Studies, or closed related field
  • Proficiency in Latin language instruction and knowledge of classical literature and culture.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • State certification in secondary education or ability to obtain certification preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience at the middle or high school.
  • Experience with writing lesson plans aligned with applicable state standards
  • Experience participating in cross-discipline lesson planning (i.e., meeting with same-grade teachers representing other domains to do common planning)
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and technology integration in the classroom.
  • Experience with implementing IEP/504 accommodations and maintaining documentation
  • Comfortable receiving and responding to feedback from instructional leaders
  • Ability to sponsor or participate in extracurricular activities such as Latin Club or Certamen.
