Speech Pathologist

General Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Speech Pathologist to join our team. The successful candidate will assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. You will work with school-aged students to improve their communication skills needed for academic success.

Essential Job Functions

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, and cognitive-communication.
  • Utilize various diagnostic tools and techniques to assess the nature and extent of impairments.

Treatment Planning

  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.
  • Implement evidence-based therapy techniques to address communication and swallowing disorders.

Therapeutic Interventions

  • Provide direct therapy services to individuals, or groups of students as directed by IEPs.
  • Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and strategies when necessary.
  • Educate students and their families about communication strategies and techniques.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with all members of a student’s IEP team to provide comprehensive care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and adjust educational plans as needed.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and detailed student records, including initial evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Prepare reports for medical professionals, educators, and insurance companies as required.

Continuing Education and Professional Development

  • Stay current with research and advancements in the field of speech-language pathology.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Working Conditions

  • May involve working with patients who have severe communication or swallowing disorders.
  • Requires physical activity

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Education

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

Licensure/Certification

  • Valid state license to practice speech-language pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is preferred.

Experience

  • years of experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with specific populations (e.g., children of all school ages and individuals with autism) is a plus.
