Substitute Teacher
General Summary
The job of the Substitute Teacher is to supervise the classroom and teach the lesson left by an absent teacher. The Substitute Teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum.
Pay is $125 per day
Essential Job Functions
- Take attendance in accordance with school procedures
- Supervise classroom of absent teacher
- Teach provided lesson plan
- Maintain a functioning classroom
- Inform the appropriate person if an accepted job cannot be filled
- Update personal and contact information
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears white board, etc.
- Insure that the students are never left unattended in the classroom
- Know emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
- Know procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems
- Know school procedures and regulations
- Perform other related duties as directed

- Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- Recognizes and follows the appropriate procedures in the “chain of command” as designated by board policies and/or administrative procedures
- Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, calculator, telephone, audio-visual equipment, laminating machine, binding machine, refrigerator, oven, etc.; uses clerical, copier, computer supplies, arts and crafts supplies, instructional supplies and materials
- Presents a positive image of Virtus Academy at all times
- Willingly performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- 21 years or older
- High school diploma or GED
- Passing score(Workkeys) or minimum of 60 college credits
- Required Training
- Background Check
- Negative TB Test
