Middle School Social Studies Teacher

General Summary

Virtus Academy is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Middle School Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty for the 2025-26 school year. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop a deep understanding of history, geography, government, and cultural studies through engaging and thought-provoking lessons. This role requires strong instructional skills, classroom management, and a commitment to fostering critical thinking and civic engagement among students.

General Job Functions

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and Virtus Academy’s curriculum.
  • Teach middle school students about history, geography, government, and current events in an interactive and meaningful way.
  • Utilize diverse instructional strategies to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes discussion, inquiry, and analytical thinking.
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback.
  • Integrate technology and primary sources to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary connections and curriculum enhancements.
  • Maintain strong communication with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide activities.
  • Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Virtus Academy.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, History, Social Studies, or a related field (required).
  • Valid teaching certification in Middle Grades Social Studies (or ability to obtain one).
  • Prior teaching experience in middle school social studies preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of historical concepts, civic education, and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster a love of learning and critical thinking in students.
