Multi-Categorical / Learning Disabilities (LD) Special Education Teacher
General Summary
Virtus Academy of South Carolina, a public charter school serving grades K–12 in Florence, seeks a dedicated and highly qualified Multi-Categorical or Learning Disabilities (LD) Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction and support to students with exceptional learning needs. The teacher will design and implement effective instructional plans that promote student success in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), state standards, and federal regulations.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for students with disabilities in accordance with IDEA and South Carolina Department of Education guidelines.
- Provide differentiated instruction and interventions for students identified under Multi-Categorical or Learning Disabilities classifications.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments for inclusion settings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, accommodations, and service minutes.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and assistive technologies to support student learning.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, evaluations, and re-evaluations as required.
- Communicate effectively with families, staff, and service providers regarding student progress and needs.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, independence, and engagement.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and school policies regarding special education services and confidentiality.
General Job Functions
- Participate in professional learning, IEP compliance training, and schoolwide initiatives.
- Collaborate as an active member of the Virtus Academy instructional team.
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and high ethical standards in all interactions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification in Multi-Categorical or Learning Disabilities (LD), or eligibility for certification.
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for students with disabilities.
