Art Teacher – High School
General Summary
Virtus Academy of South Carolina, a public charter school serving grades K–12 in Florence, seeks a passionate and qualified High School Art Teacher to inspire creativity, develop artistic skill, and foster self-expression through visual arts education. The Art Teacher will design engaging, standards-based lessons that support the artistic and personal growth of students, promote appreciation for the arts, and contribute to a vibrant school culture that celebrates innovation and creativity.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned art curriculum for high school students.
- Instruct students in a variety of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
- Foster creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression in a supportive classroom environment.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through projects, portfolios, and exhibitions.
- Maintain an organized and safe art classroom and studio space.
- Prepare and display student artwork for school events and community showcases.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate art into cross-curricular instruction when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic and creative growth.
- Participate in professional development, department meetings, and schoolwide initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Valid South Carolina teaching certification in Visual Arts or eligibility for certification.
- Experience working with high school students preferred.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to design inclusive, creative, and student-centered learning experiences.
